Coffee & Health unveils its latest vodcast covering current research on coffee, sports performance and fluid balance

July 24, 2012

The Institute for Scientific Information on Coffee (ISIC) has unveiled its second vodcast on the Coffee & Health website, which addresses current scientific research on the relationship between coffee drinking, sports performance and fluid balance.

Dr Trisha Macnair, hospital physician and health journalist, is joined by Dr Andy Blannin, lecturer at the School of Sport and Exercise Sciences at the University of Birmingham in the UK, to discuss the research on coffee and fluid balance in the context of sports performance.

The vodcast looks at work published to date and the effects of coffee consumption on fluid balance, focusing on athletes and sports performance. Dr Blannin provides highlights of his research on the impact of moderate coffee consumption versus water on hydration in normal daily activities, due to be published next year. He also shares how caffeinated coffee can actually improve performance during endurance exercise, without leading to body dehydration.
