New Website Launched Featuring Latest Research on “Coffee and Health”

Resource Now Available to Health Professionals, Academics and Specialist Health Media. Amsterdam, May 19, 2011 – The Institute for Scientific Information on Coffee (ISIC) has today unveiled its new website on “coffee and health.”

The new website has been created to provide balanced, up-to date scientific information on coffee, caffeine and health to health professionals, academics and specialist health media: https://www.coffeeandscience.org/health

For the past two decades, ISIC has provided researchers, health professionals and specialist media audiences with accurate scientific information through the Coffee Science Information Centre (CoSIC) as well as the PositivelyCoffee.org website, working in collaboration with the International Coffee Organisation. ISIC’s vast scientific database, encompassing hundreds of published peer-reviewed studies, builds the basis for the new website on “Coffee and Health.” The site includes current scientific information on a wide range of coffee-related topics, putting new research findings in the context of the existing body of knowledge, helping health professionals, academics and specialist media get a comprehensive, balanced perspective on each topic.

The website features three dedicated information centres, tailored to the specific needs of healthcare practitioners such as doctors, nurses and dieticians, the academic and research community, as well as specialist health media. The site also includes a topics centre, which provides a summary of research on a wide-range of “coffee and health” issues. The site includes fully-referenced, balanced information, based on the latest scientific research, as well as additional background data sourced from relevant authoritative bodies on a range of health topics including cardiovascular health, fluid balance, liver function, pregnancy, sports performance and type 2 diabetes. Furthermore, the site includes a collection of recent “coffee and health” research papers, which will be updated monthly, along with related links for each health topic and full search functionality.

“Millions of people around the world enjoy the delicious taste of a cup of coffee, whether at home, on the go or while at work. Coffee is a widely researched food item, and there is increasing scientific evidence which demonstrates that moderate coffee consumption can be part of a healthy balanced lifestyle. Coffee even has beneficial effects on mental and physical performance, as recently confirmed by the European Food Safety Authority (EFSA), and science is building up on possible further benefits,” commented Roger Cook, Science Manager at ISIC.

“Considerable scientific rigour has gone into developing the new “Coffee and Health” website, providing an invaluable resource for researchers and health professionals with an interest in “coffee and health.” The inclusion of comprehensive research overviews make it easy for interested audiences to learn about and to stay up-to-date on each topic, and there is the added reassurance that original sources are signposted for easy access when required,” remarked Dr Astrid Nehlig, Scientific Advisor to ISIC.
